Blog Post #3: Self-Discipline
A recurring issue that seems to be happening among the participants for my project is why most diets and cleanses tend to fail; lack of self-discipline. Almost anyone can exercise five days out of the week, but if an individual fails to apply that same motivation in the kitchen and just downs a gallon of sugary drinks and pastries, then that just contradicts the amount of exercise they had just performed.
Henceforth, full-time students have a tendency to resorting to comfort foods and snacks to "help" them get through class or an entire night of studying. Yet these typical snacks may not exactly be the best things to put into your body because they might have the opposite effect of making you more lethargic and not having a clear mind whilst studying.
That is why I have found this issue an extreme setback to being healthy because even I've found myself not caring about what I put into my body as long as I get through the entire night of studying. This should never be the case because actually being mindful over what foods we put into our bodies can actually help us and be even more aware, which is why on my separate blog (link attached below) I listed numerous "brain food" options that are perfect to pair with your study session.
I am hoping for the next step of my project I will be able to actually compare groups of people; one group just doing their same routine while studying along with whatever snacks they tend to eat, and the other group using the tips and advice that I posted on my blog. Through this I will be able to compare how much of an impact our diet makes on our school life, which I feel would be significantly beneficial to students from elementary school all the way through college and so on.

Hi Angelica!
ReplyDeleteI think your idea is really great because of your passion for helping your fellow peers. Many teenagers put their health last on their things to focus on. Personally, I rely on snacks to make it through the day and most of the time I reach for the unhealthy ones. I suggest including snacks that are portable and not too expensive. What other types of tips for staying healthy are you including?

Your topic seems interesting to me as I belive I could consume healthier foods. As a swimmer I can eat basically any food that I like and never see the increase in weight since I exercise so frequently. I see how this could be a problem though for non-athletes since they so not perform the same amount of exercise. I really like your idea to analyze different groups of people and to see which food they consume. I suggest that you also track how much exercise these individuals perform so that you will be able to tell their progress. Good luck with your project!

This topic is so relevant! I just joined a gym and find that even though I'm exercising more my diet is still pretty inconsistent. It's hard to take the time to make a healthy meal when In and Out has drive through.. that being said I can see why you're having a set back with snacks. It seems like you're making good progress so far and I can't wait to see the final result!
